Seen on break, week 2.
Being the new person at work is absolutely exhausting. Remembering names and titles and who reports to who… I’m falling asleep at nine or ten at night like a viejita. Everything is new and different and exciting on top of trying to actually learn my new priorities. It finally took until today to get my chair the right height for my short legs. I’m getting there.
In the meantime, I’m enjoying being downtown and finally being able to take walks on my breaks, as well living with the quirks of a building built sometime around the late 60s-ish.
A slightly blurred photo on my morning walk from the garage. It’s only a half a mile, but it’s uphill all the way. The walk back to the garage at the end of the day is much easier.
The historic church across the street has a small prayer garden. This oakleaf hydrangea immediately grabbed my attention, as I didn’t stop to pray.
As did these tiger lilies that I would swear weren’t bloomed out last week.
The little things are making me happy. I hope the newness doesn’t wear off for a while.
Brick buildings and a bit of flare.
A tell-tale of the building’s age.
Invasive creepers in my parking garage.
I accidentally found out last week there is another set of employee-only stairs after I found myself behind two locked doors too early in the morning, and thought I’d have to wait for my supervisor to get here.
Yesterday morning, on my way in, I found myself chasing the fog, as it quickly burned off as the sun rose.
I’ll know better next time to give myself extra time for my morning walk in to catch it lingering over the river.
It was just out of reach… just down the hill.
But the sun breaking through created its own beauty. Nothing like rare cool mornings in June. A sunrise before it heats everything up and you have to wade through the humidity. For a minute, everything really is okay.

I'm glad to read you're 'getting there' and enjoy the little things. Remember the novelty of being the new person at work tends to wear off quickly. I enjoyed "This oakleaf hydrangea immediately grabbed my attention, as I didn’t stop to pray." which is a very extraordinary statement (I'm not saying I would guess it was yours, but somehow that doesn't surprise me).
I loved the morning shots and the photo down the stairs that comes before them.
I know change of work is not easy, takes a few months to learn everything...good luck!
